Technical Assistance Project for Assessing Türkiye’s Potential in Transition to a Circular Economy (DEEP)

What is it?

As a consortium partner, we took part in the DEEP Project, which was launched with joint funding from the Republic of Türkiye and the European Union. Led by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, the project was designed to support Türkiye’s transition towards a circular economy and to strengthen its institutional and technical capacity in this process.

How Long Did the Project Last?

The project spanned a total of 36 months, beginning in 2022 and concluding in February 2025.

What Was Done Within the Scope of the Project?

Within the DEEP Project, a series of analyses, strategy development, and capacity-building activities were carried out to contribute to Türkiye’s transition to a circular economy:

  • The current situation and potential of Türkiye in the field of circular economy were analysed.
  • A National Strategy and Action Plan, aligned with the European Union’s Circular Economy Model, was developed.
  • A Roadmap on Single-Use Plastics and Marine Litter was prepared, identifying priority steps in waste prevention and management.
  • An integrated waste management system was designed to reduce waste generation and promote separate collection at source, accompanied by awareness-raising and information activities.
  • The institutional and technical capacities of national and local institutions in integrated waste management were strengthened.

BCDS Türkiye’s Role

In the project, we not only acted as a consortium partner but also played an active role on the civil society side. The knowledge, opinions, and suggestions from our members guided the market research and the General Assessment and Market Research Survey conducted within the scope of the project. In this way, we supported the steps taken to contribute to our country’s green transition process.
